Launch the media gallery 1 playerParis R-II School District “Home of the Coyotes,” is a rural district located in Monroe County in Northeast Missouri. The town of Paris is the county seat. Much of this area was settled by migrants from the Upper South, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. Monroe County was considered at the heart of what was called Little Dixie. The school district is the center of the Paris community. The community is supportive of the district whether it is sports, academics, or other school groups. When the school had to cut baseball and golf from the budget, community members came to the rescue and now sponsor those activities.
The Paris R-II district serves approximately 434 students in grades K-12. Paris is a perfect place to go to school because of its many opportunities it provides for its students. At Paris R-II, the staff makes it their point to always work towards improving their curriculum and opportunities to open the eyes of the students to the world that is outside the wall of Paris R-II. Attendance centers include a grade PK-6 Elementary School, 7-8 Junior High School and a 9-12 High School.
The philosophy of the Paris R-II School District is driven by the district’s goal of “Building a foundation for a positive future.” A former staff member shares, “Never in my dreams for my teaching career did I imagine I would have the privilege of teaching in such an outstanding district as the Paris R-II School District for 18 years. From the minute I walked into the school district to the day I retired, the staff, students and community demonstrated dedication to our school and pride for our school.”
The district has outstanding and dedicated teachers in the elementary, junior high and high school. In addition, to the required classes, the highly qualified staff provides advanced courses in math and science and offer vocational career education programs in business and agriculture. Many of the teachers teach college level classes that help students for the transition from high school to college. The staff will do whatever it takes to make sure the students have the best education they can provide, from learning new techniques, writing and updating curriculum, to providing extra help outside the normal school day. Paris continues to improve their APR. In 2013 the APR was 90.7, not satisfied and the drive to continually improve, the district’s APR in 2014 was 94.3.
The Paris R-II School District may not have the largest student body, the most money, or the biggest buildings, however, they are “Outstanding” because of the great students, great teachers, great staff, and great support from the parents and the community, including a very progressive and involved board of education to lead the way.
