Mitch Barnes has dedicated the past six years as high school principal at the Braymer C-4 school district. Mr. Barnes is an exemplary administrator within his district and displays excellent instructional leader skills on a consistent basis. Mr. Barnes is a very driven person and goes beyond to meet the expectations of his job. He consistently demonstrates outstanding qualities of dedication, professionalism, responsibility, patience and organization.
Mitch has been a school-wide leader in staff development presenting numerous in-service trainings on current research-based instruction, best practices, item-writing, performance assessment, and the analysis and application of achievement data. During his tenure, there has been an increase in teacher collaboration, to improve classroom instruction and modify curriculum. This commitment is shown with the improvement in MAP and EOC scores. Mr. Barnes has been instrumental in implementing Professional Learning Communities in the district setting high standards for the teachers and students. He has also been actively involved in the implementation of the school-wide Positive Behavior Support system.
An organized administrator, Mitch puts a lot of thought into his planning and carries out that plan in the building. Always on the look-out for programs that will ensure his staff is equipped with the tools necessary to assure student success. Spending countless hours researching common core strategies, he shares his findings with his staff. He expects his teachers to stay current with educational topics and to keep their students engaged throughout the school year.
Mitch Barnes, one that is committed to excellence and communicates that through his high expectations for his students, his staff and himself, makes him deserving as Missouri’s Outstanding Rural Building Administrator for the 2014-2015 school year.
