Alicia York, Lonedell R-14
Rural Senior High Student
Outstanding Rural Secondary Student
Alicia York
Lonedell R-14 & St. Clair R-13 School Districts
A student of high standards, an achiever of academics, extra-curricular activities, school organizations and especially in life is Alicia York, currently a member of the Junior Class at St. Clair High School in St Clair, Missouri. She is currently ranked first in her class and has a cumulative grade point average in excess of 4.0. Alicia is best described as a model student and citizen.
Alicia is a life-long resident of the Lonedell R-14 School District, which is a K-8 district. She was the valedictorian of her eighth grade class of 2010. Going from a small rural K-8 school district of 300 students to an urban high school has not been a challenge for this young lady. Aside from success in academics and athletics, Alicia is a young lady who is full of humility and hard work ethics. As valedictorian, she addressed her eighth grade class in 2010 with these words, “I challenge you to be involved in clubs and sports, stay active, positive, and true to yourselves; I have witnessed the abilities of each of you through our years in PE and other class activities and know you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to. As we go off to our different high schools, let us make Lonedell proud by behaving in a manner that reflects how we were taught to be respective, courteous and loving.”
One of her high school instructors describes, “Alicia as a young woman of strong character, I can always count on Alicia to do what is right. She is the type of student you would give the keys to the school to because you know she is honest and trustworthy.” Among her academic awards, Alicia was nominated and accepted for Maps in Medicine at Mizzou, the 2010 Freshman Top Dog Award in Art I, and the St. Clair High School Perfect Attendance award in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Alicia is a three sport athlete in St. Clair High School including Varsity Softball, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Track and Field. Alicia practices hard and is a key contributor to each team. It is amazing how she balances time between academics, sports, and clubs, which is an obvious testament to her time management skills. She is active in National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a Youth Group of Prospect Baptist Church.
Alicia York is a smart, responsible individual who will succeed in whatever task she undertakes. With her strong work ethic and the ability to do whatever she wants in life and have success at it. A role model for her St. Clair High School peers, and an example for the K-8 Lonedell Bobcats who still look up to her, she is a leader who leads by example and by serving, which makes her most deserving as the Outstanding Rural Secondary Student for 2013.
