Madeline Phillips - 2020 "Frank "Dean" Cone Scholarship" Recipient
Madeline Phillips
Madeline is a graduate of Macks Creek High School in Macks Creek, Missouri. She is currently a student at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin working on a major in Special Education.
Madeline shares, "As the daughter of a Superintendent and an Elementary Principal in a rural Missouri school district with less than 400 students K-12, I understand the large impact quality educators have on rural schools. Through my parents, I have seen the sheer good that can be done and the personal relationships that can be made in small schools. I am drawn to serving students in a rural school setting because of the opportunity that can be found with smaller class sizes, the partnerships that can be made with families, and the community aspect of a small town."
A college professor shares, "Miss Phillips stands out from other students in her level of maturity and kindness. While all of the students in the class appear to get along well and work with each other, Madeline goes above and beyond. She asks questions, makes an attempt to get to know her classmates as people, and shows great respect to other class members. Her character is above reproach, showing high levels of integrity, honesty and a desire to grow." Another reference notes that, "Madeline was a model student. She has all of the character traits that parents, teachers, administrators and employers desire."
It is our pleasure to present Madeline Phillips the 2020 Frank "Dean" Cone Scholarship award!
