Seth Schenck
2016 Howard Heidbrink Scholarship Recipient
Seth Schenck is a graduate of New Haven High School in New Haven, MO. He is currently a student at Columbia College, Columbia, MO working on a major in History Education, grades 9-12.
Seth shares that he greatly enjoyed his rural education experience as a student in New Haven. He noted the smaller classes, the fact that everyone knows each other, and the limited number of activities as key ingredients in making his school experience a success. The opportunity to develop close relationships with fellow students and teachers has influenced Seth in his choice to become a rural education teacher, possibly returning to teach and coach in New Haven in the future.
One of his college instructors shares that Seth is highly motivated, displays traits of an exemplary student and shows great potential to become an effective teacher. His understanding of the special needs that exist in rural education settings will allow him to competently address the needs of administrators, colleagues, students and parents. His desire and willingness to serve as a coach in addition to fulfilling his teaching duties will allow him to serve as a mentor and role model for students under his charge.
His commitment to make a positive impact as a teacher/coach in a rural school setting and in the rural school community as well make it appropriate to congratulate Seth Schenck as the 2016 Howard Heidbrink Scholarship recipient.
