Rashall Westhoelter
2010 recipient of the Howard Heidbrink Scholarship
Missouri, working on a major in Elementary Education with a concentration in Literature and Language Arts.
Rashall shares that her desire to teach in a rural community stems from her upbringing. During my time at Hallsville, I thoroughly enjoyed growing up with my classmates and being able to walk through the halls and know everyone’s name. I felt that in my school and community, teachers and administrators cared about students’ success and pushed us to the limits.
Rashall goes on to share that the reason she wants to return to teach in a rural community is to give back to a community that helped develop her into the person she is today. A couple of her former teachers are listed as ones who unearthed her love for reading and the desire to gain as much knowledge as possible in addition to the passion and dedication shown toward the teaching profession.
One of her former teachers share that Rashall showed leadership qualities in her high school career. She has built and gained the trust and loyalty of community members. Other students have received a better education and preparation of life skills because Rashall was a part of our classroom community.
One of her college instructors shares that Rashall is a highly motivated, responsible person who is always willing to participate in discussions, asking pertinent questions, applying critical thinking skills to problems posed, and engaging in various avenues to enhance her learning experience.
