2005 Missouri Rural Board of Education Member
Susan Kyle
Susan Kyle has spent the last thirteen years serving her community and school district as a School Board member working to improve and support the Cole Camp R-I School District. Susan is currently the most senior member of the board of education.
Susan's "Agenda" on the board? The KIDS!!! The decisions Susan makes on the board are always in the best interest of the kids. Susan is described by one of her fellow board members as a "stabilizing force" on the board. She gives us friendly reminders of why we are there and what our role is. Susan's philosophy has always been that we can express differing opinions, but it is important that we work toward consensus without animosity or hard feelings. Susan Kyle was very instrumental in brain-storming ideas that resulted in getting a 2.7 million dollar bond issue approved for the construction of a new facility. During Susan's tenure on the board, the Cole Camp School District has received "Accredited with Distinction" five times. The middle school received the Gold Star recognition and the high school has currently been nominated as a Blue Ribbon school.
Susan Kyle is a leader in her community as well as the amount of time she puts in for school activities. Whenever someone needs a volunteer or someone to fill an office, Susan is usually the first to raise her hand. She has held leadership positions in the Chamber of Commerce, Cole Camp School Educational Foundation, The Jaycees, Cole Camp Fair Board in addition to the School Music Boosters and the Board of Education. For several years, Susan has been in charge of the CHRISTBAUMFEST, which is one of the city's largest events.
One of the most impressive qualities Susan displays is her TOTAL DEVOTION and assistance to all aspects of the school. You will find her in attendance at almost every event that is held at the school -- sports, drama, music, class dinners, etc. As a board member, she sees the importance of attending meetings and seminars in keeping up-to-date on current educational programs and issues. Each session she attends is chosen for the benefit she sees for the kids at Cole Camp.
By virtue of being elected five times to the Cole Camp R-I School District patrons, Susan Kyle has gained the trust and respect deserving of the honor as the Outstanding Missouri Rural Board of Education member for 2006.
